Chancellor's Message

The academic year 2011-2012 is significant in the history of our university. The year marks the centenary of its establishment and also we begin using the new name - Sam Hingginbottom Institute of Agriculture, Technology and Science. It is a humble tribute to the founding father and the great visionary of the institute Dr. Sam Hingginbottom.

Institutions come and institutions go but, those founded with a clear vision and mission are to stay, creating history and heritage. 100 years in the life of an institute like ours is no small a matter. Establishing an institution is one thing and sustaining the same without losing the spirit of service is yet another. The founder's urge to "till the land and feed the hungry", - a noble desire of his heart, continues to muster the same relevance and priority even after 100 years of life and service.

Our university has the distinction of creating a new cadre of personnel in Agriculture and Allied Sciences, a path finding venture, initiated 100 years ago during which time, the meaning and scope of such an institute was hardly realized leave alone anybody dared to
establish. Thus, our university was a path finder for training, research and extension in the fields of Agriculture and Allied Sciences. We salute the founding father and successive leadership for their shared vision and the shared commitment.

Responding to the emerging needs of our students, the university was transformed into a multidisciplinary Institute catering to the training and research needs in the fields of Bio-Technology, Management, Computer Sciences, Health Sciences and such other courses. For this transformation, we owe it to the founder vice chancellor Bishop Prof. Rajendra B. Lal and his team of colleagues on the campus and off the campus.

Professional and higher education should be accessible and affordable to any student as per his/her choice. The latest statistics show that the student enrolment for higher and professional education in the country is placed at 12.4% while the International average is 23%. This explains the need and urgency for proven Institutions of higher and professional learning. We are glad and grateful to God that the pioneering Allahabad Agriculture Institute has grown from strength to strength under God's guidance to rise up to the hopes and aspirations of young professionals and technocrats in fulfilling their missiological and career goals.

The training, research and extension infrastructure; the well qualified and experienced multidisciplinary faculty; the facilities for value education and spiritual growth and the vast opportunities for extra curricular activities, are a few to cite that make the university setting not only student friendly but student centered.

We are proud of our passing-out students for their excelling grades and overwhelmingly winning job placements. We have every reason to believe that our in-coming students will be proud of their choice to join this university and be moulded to face challenges of life not only in building their careers, but building the Nation.

History and Heritage are important as without history, there is no proven authenticity. Becoming part of this history and heritage of Sam Hingginbottom University is surely a sought-after challenge to every young professional seeking to grow in a profession of choice and wholistic development.

God bless our students and God bless our University.
