India's Agriculture continues to be dominated by the
belief that its base is crop production and its importance is beyond
dispute, since food grains fulfill the first basic need by providing
calories for sustenance of the country's population. Having achieved a level
of self sufficiency in cereal production, the base of farming needs to be
broadened to enhance the quality in the daily diet as represented by animal
protein, for which the major source is milk and meat. Therefore, dairying
has an enormous potential to improve the socio-economic status of the large
percentage of rural population, cattle perhaps being one of the best
tangible asset and mainstay for their security. This improvement in
socio-economic status is further supported by various other aspects of
Animal Science like poultry, piggery, sheep and goat keeping etc.
Faculty of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry with its very well
defined purpose aims to the emergence of dairying as a full-fledged
Agri-business for enhancing animal nutrition, generating mass employment
particularly in rural areas. Scientific dairy farming is also helping to
develop a symbiotic relationship between the Farmer and Industry.
The Faculty is committed to provide a sound base for teaching, research,
extension and training with its well balanced educational programmes. A well
defined course work covers various aspects of animal science at graduate,
postgraduates and doctoral levels. Highly professional faculty is dedicated
to share its rich experience with post graduate and research students for
their research work.
